March's lovely finish and the dimply guy

A couple of years ago I cut out a quilt that called for a lot of 4 1/2" strips.  For some reason, probably a faulty reason, I cut out two sets and squirreled the second set away.  At the beginning of the month I dug them out and decided that this would be me UFO finish for the month of March.
Fortunately I finished by the end of March and I can go and visit this little guy with a clear conscience.
I am linking up with a lovely year of finishes on Flickr.  The quilt is 62 x 70.

Little sister, big brother, February finish.

This is Little Sister she is only 72" square and she is the February finish.  Another finish in the Lovely year of finishes.

This is Big Brother 88" square.  As you can see he has the half square triangles for Little Sister lying on top of him waiting for stitching up.

Clara-batiks combined with prints.

Baby quilt 50x60.   This quilt was a collaboration.between my comother in law, Penny, and myself.  When we were picking out the fabrics; I selected a batik and she winced.  Is there a rule that you are not supposed to combine regular prints and batiks?  Just curious.

Silvia

Saturday, Feb 9th, I attended a baby shower for my darling friend Silvia.  She is very petite and when she opened up the quilt that I had made for her baby and held it up to her it completely covered her up.  I said, "you could use that for yourself".   It is only 53" x 70 1/2".

Piecing detail in the center.

extra triangles and batik spiders

This is a large eight pointed star  I made the diamonds out of 14 inch half square triangles.  When I was cutting them out it was really easy to cut out two sets at a time so there will be another giant eight point star by the end of the month.  Finish it up in 2013.  Link back to Lovely finishes.  One of the things that I am very proud of is that all the fabrics in this post are out of my stash.  No new purchases.  Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

Our church youth group is going to tie small quilts for charity so I volunteered to make 3 bound sandwiches except that I lost control and machine quilted this whole cloth quilt.  Click to see quilting detail.  The whole time  I was quilting I was thinking of my four year old grandson.  He likes to hold his hands up beside his face and wiggle his fingers and say "spiders" in a scary voice.  Sigh, he is over in China.

Almost a whole shot of my eight pointed star.  One of the nice details is that the border on each side is a different color.

My first granddaughter

 She has astonished down pat.
Her daddy works in China so her mommy had her in a Chinese hospital.  Their home is three hours away from their preferred hospital in Shanghai.  So my daughter kicked up her heels in a hotel next door to the hospital waiting for the baby to announce her arrival while dad and big brother stayed back in Chang Zhou.  When she finally went into labor; my daughter called her husband and took herself over to the hospital.  Addison is a speedy little thing and ended up arriving in the world within two hours;  Dad finally straggled in an hour after her birth.
Not entirely happy with black quilting on colored fabric.

This baby doll has the same round eyes as Addison except Addison's eyes are distinctly gray.  This was a little set of baby doll accoutrement that I whipped up for her Christmas present.

End of January finish

You know what's nice about small projects?  You get to get to the quilting almost immediately; my favorite part of the process.
I'm linking this up to January finishes. Go there and see all the other finishes.
